Welcome to the Just BE Community Play Day for Black Women Entrepreneurs!
Play Days are one of our favorite signature events in which we curate space for Black Women Entrepreneurs (BWEs) to build community through the power of fun, joy, laughter, and play.
It has been a tough 3 years with the global pandemic transforming our lives and businesses forever. For many of us, the pandemic exacerbated the feeling of isolation we already had as entrepreneurs. Just BE’s goal is to disrupt this isolation via an in-person Play Day that will allow us to build relationships with one another while getting us out of our heads and into our bodies via arts and crafts.
Our origin story is rooted in maker culture and we are excited to be focusing on the marker activity of printmaking with our event partner That Art Party. All art materials, food, and beverages will be provided for you.
All you have to do is show up - ready to connect and have some fun!
After all that you do in the world as a BWE reimaging new designs, products, services, and economies for you, your family, and your community - you deserve a moment to be cared for. 💜 Let us do the work and celebrate you.
In order to keep this Play Day intimate, we’re only offering 20 seats for this in-person event, so secure your spot for you and your homegirl ASAP.
Pre-sale tickets are available now!
FAQs
Who is this event for?
Black Women Entrepreneurs (cis, trans, and non-binary) who can show up for an in-person event. Any BWE local to the California, Bay Area or traveling to the Bay that week is welcome to attend. BWEs of all industries (artists, makers, musicians, designers, writers, etc.), stages, and ages are welcome to attend
What is the point of having an adult play day, as a Black Woman entrepreneur?
Play is one of the most simple and accessible de-stressing tools all humans have access to at any given time. The benefits of play are endless, but first, let's define what it is for our adult brains. Jeff Harry, a Black business owner, and positive play coach explains that “play is an action you do that brings you significant amounts of joy without offering a specific result.” This looks like going for a nice long walk through the neighborhood, town, or trail because it is fun instead of losing a few pounds. As entrepreneurs who monetize everything, we are often looking for a result, “like what am I getting out of this?”. Genuine play has no result, just some awesome benefits. As Black Women we are disproportionately impacted by stress and anxiety AND play is one tool we can access that is psychologically and physically proven to decrease stress, improve mood, increase creativity, and increase energy.
Why should I make the investment to attend; What experiential benefits will I gain?
You should attend because you’re brilliant, and amazing, and deserve to have fun in a community with sistas just like you. Also connection! We don’t know about y’all, but we have been feening for human contact in a world that feels even more isolated since the pandemic shutdowns.
As a Black woman entrepreneur, you will gain:
A renewed sense of in-person community + connection with BWEs like yourself
The benefits of play, goofiness, silliness - which include stress relief, improved mood, creativity boosts, and increased energy
A break from the hustle and bustle of business, getting to create something with your hands
An energized understanding of Just BE as a membership-based healing, wellness, and shared prosperity community for BWEs
Why the premium price?
Just BE Play Days are uniquely curated to meet the needs of BWEs. This means that we provide everything for you (beer, wine, charcuterie, and art supplies) so that all you have to do is make an investment in yourself and show up. Additionally, as a for-profit social enterprise, we have to ensure that our team is paid a thriving wage and that our overall business model is sustainable for generations to come. Finally, any Just BE event you invest in as a BWE is considered a business expense or tax write-off related to professional development or professional services. So save your receipt for this event and share it with your accountant!
What is your COVID-19 policy, how are you keeping folks safe?
We recognize that COVID is still at large, especially in the winter months.
Pre-Event COVID Testing
We ask that participants take an “at-home COVID test” 3 days prior to the Play Day. Please take a picture of your negative test and bring it to Play Day as part of your registration. In the event that your test shows up positive for COVID-19, please review our refund policy below.
Mask Policy
The Holiday Play Day is an indoor event (as it will be cold outside). We will ensure windows are open for good circulation throughout the event, so an indoor coat or sweater may be a good idea to add to your wardrobe. At this time, wearing masks during the event is optional for participants. Keep an eye out for any changes to this policy via our event messages.
Community Communication Policy
We ask that all participants monitor their health post-event and reach out to the Just BE team at hello@justbecommunity.com to let us know if you develop COVID-19 symptoms or a positive diagnosis 3 - 5 days after the event. We will then inform the entire play day community of COVID-19 exposure.
Oh no, I reserved a ticket, but now I can’t attend. What do I do?
Full refunds are provided up to 3 days before the event. Just email hello@justbecommunity.com
For folks who experience a last-minute emergency, please reach out at the email above when you are safe, healthy, and able. We will credit your ticket toward the next Play Day event in 2024 or 1 free month of the Just BE membership, launching in 2024.
